From: ruchele/rhonda/ronnie

Hi. I've just entered our website after a few days of not checking in. I love reading the new news! So... where's the pickle recipe? I'm gonna try it when I see it. What's happening with the Nachshen's from Jerusalem? Are they related? This is exciting to think that we have more family that we haven't met yet. Did we invite them to the seder? Wouldn't it be incredible if they were able to join us!?

Hello from Vancouver. I'm hoping to be able to arange to come for the seder. Take care and love to all. Roocheleh/Ronnie/Rhonda

So, The Great Nachshen Family Challenge is on. What do we call the ongoing saga of the possible discovery of new Nachshens? Is it possible that the Windsor Family at Buckingham Palace saw the Nachshen Family Homepage from Pogrebische and decided to launch their own website too? Could it be that the Windsor's are also related to the Nachshen's (another U.K. Connection??!!).

Anyway, what to call the page dedicated to finding answers? Well, here's my Top Ten List (with apologies to David Letterman - rumour has it he may be a Nachshen too!):

10. The Nachshen/Nachshen Letters (a.k.a The Nachshen X Files)

9. The Nachshen Wannabees

8. I'm a Nashen, You're a Nation, Don't YOU want to be a Nachshen too? (With apologies to Dr. Pepper).

7. The United Nachshens (We can get blue caps and drive around in white cars with great big U.N. letters painted on the side...)

6. The Re-United Nachshens

5. The Nachshenal Enquirer

4. Inter-Nachshenal News & Mail

3. The Nachshenal Mystery Tour (With apologies to Ringo, George, John and Paul).

2. Nachshenal Unity (With apologies to the Government of Quebec......Not!!).

And the #1 title for the Nachshen Family page dedicated to bringing together family separated after seven generations:

1. The Nachshen Lost & Found Page

Wow! the Nachshen/Nachshen Letters are exciting. When Brian puts up photos from Donia's illustrations, we may see the family resemblance and that will be what demonstrates our connection. ! Our web page may yet win a Web award. It certainly does with me.

All of the westcoast Clements (10 of us!) will be in for the family seder. I hope everyone appreciates the effort it takes to get, not only 6 adults and 4 kids from (5 yrs to 3 months) to Mtl., but we also have our first seder in Toronto. That should inspire all remote NFC members to make the trip!

Our ainiclach are wonderful, our kids make us proud, and Bev and Peter are going on a ski vacation next week. Peter, to take snow board lessons in celebration of his upcoming 50th (yes the twins are 50 this year!), and Bev to follow behind with a first aid kit.

Great work, Tzini, now how about a computer at the seder to show all the cousins the miracle of the web page you gave us!

Love, Peter

Hi Family..I am overwhelmed with the N/N correspondence. I am trying to keep up with replies..but my skill in email is still fresh...And the pressures of "business" is great. You all know my new business: Translations, from Yiddish to English and English to Yiddish. I have just completed a big job (Eng to Yid)...but, I will soon send you my thoughts on the recent exchange of the N/N Saga...In the meantime I look forward to seeing you at the Pesach Seder..What a family!
Love you all.....Shalom, Issie N

Hello everyone and greetings from the beautiful Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts.

As a guest of the NFC since its inception, I am deeply touched by this web site, but I must add, not surprised. You see, Brian's creativity has long been known to me. At the very earliest, it began with the days when he, Larry, Silka and I used to play "Chip Wagon." (Remember that?)

I congratulate you today, Cuz/Bro, not only for your creativity, but that you've shared it with so many. What a gift! A living love-filled gift! To echo others, kol hakavod!

To all of the Nachshens, you do well to celebrate your connection. Personally, I celebrate you, Brian, and send you all my love.

Your Cuz/Sis, Anita

P.S. I promise and anticipate many warm hugs and kisses at Pesach.

Hi everyone! Reading about other Nachshens is exciting and hopefully there is a connection. The California branch is doing fine and we will all be at the seder. This year Helen, Wendy and Wendy's sons will be able to join us! This should be a great reunion. (James is 7 1/2 and Dylan is 5) See you all soon!

Hi everyone, I'm putting together a "Time Capsule" for Katie. Anyone who would like to write a letter to the "Future" to be sealed in her capsule to be opened in about 20 years, I would love it. This would be really neat for her to read, learning about her family, perhaps you have a little piece of information about me, her Bubby Ellie, her Auntie Ronnie or Uncle Ian, or even yourself. You might like to tell her something about yourself or about how you see life in the next 20 years. I'd love for her to see "US" 20 years from now. Send your letters to Katie Fera at jlcox@juno.com. We look forward to your letters and anything else you might like to add.

Thanks,
Shari

Subject: The Webmaster is on hiatus

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have received more material for our web site from Mintzy, Anne, and Issie, some if it quite a while ago. I'm a little behind (no pun intended) with this stuff and hope to get it all posted here fairly soon, if other, more earth-shaking events, don't further delay me.

My next project will be to get everyone, and I mean every one, to submit little bios so that we can all get to know each other better.

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to seeing most, if not all, of you in about a month.

Stay tuned for Nachshen Family Circle expansion news.

Love to all,

Welcome the newest member of the Nachshen Family Circle!

At just a few minutes after 5 this morning, Pacific time, Johanna and David Mills brought a beautiful, healthy, 9 lb., 11oz., baby boy into the family and into the world. The baby was born in Nelson, BC. This is their second child, my second grandchild, and Polly and Jack's third great-grandchild.

Details to follow.

I received a copy of the Donia Nachshen Haggadah and a letter from Simon Ainley. I'm hoping to have a few of the illustrations from the Haggadah on the web site within a couple of days, and I'll be bringing it to Montreal, of course. Simon also sent a Family Tree of the UK/USA/Israel Nachshens, which I'll also post. The letter is on the Nachshen/Nachshen Letters page. Click here to read it.

By the way, when I said I was on hiatus (a good Yiddish word), I didn't mean for the whole darn family to go on hiatus, too! Where are all the letters and news items? Somebody, somewhere, must be doing something interesting. Noo?

Love to all and see you all (or most of you, anyway) on the 22nd,

Hi,
We have just returned from our sabbatical in Israel, and I had my first chance to look at the NFC web site. It is fabulous! What a great idea. The UK/Israel/Canada letters are exciting and we are clearly on the brink of identifying a new branch of the NFC.

As you may know, the name Nachshen or Nachshon is quite common in Israel, but my impression is that it may be mostly Sephardic. Being a Biblical, old Hebrew name, it has high status there. Incidentally, one thing Danny and I loved about living in Israel was that people never said "Whaa? How do you spell that?" when we told them our last name.

A small correction in the family tree -- Danny and I were married in March 1971.

Yasher koach. See you at Pesach.

Ma Mintzy has short hair, can you imagine...you said you'd never live to see the day. A few weeks ago she cried cause her bletlach for her blintzes* didn't come out thin like yours...ma you never showed her how to do it.

Ma, Peter has a 4th grandchild...you always laughed when anyone said Zaide Peter. My Omer is a curly top (like I was) you, Ma would make Shirley Temple ringlets in a jiffy. Ma, he can say Zaide Jack but he won't know Bubbe Tanya.

Ma, Remember when I got locked in the shul on St Urbain, I meant to ask you how you found me and was I scared? Ma I meant to ask you... but I didn't Ma I need to tell you... but I can't.

Ma When I call Daddy he never says "shh, careful Mother's coming."

Ma You said there is nothing after death, its the end, you said. So how come you are everywhere and always? How come I talk to you more now than before?

Ma We always called you Ma and you hated to be called ma. You know what...whenever we talk about you we always say Mummy...so now Ma there is no Ma only Mummy

Ma, I never knew sadness was such an encompassing state. Its there in the morning, its there at work, it comes with us to simchas and to shivas

Ma I'm sad Ma, I miss you

Nechama

*hey clements cause im the oldest i remember when mummy used to say melintzes and not blintzes cause in the ukraine etc etc.. remember how she like the word jiffy

Local Artists at Fraser Hickson

May 3, 1997, Montreal - Local artists Phyllis Nashen and Mina Jankielewitz will exhibit their works of art, in a presentation called “Scene From the Eye”, from May 12 to June 1, 1997 at the Fraser Hickson Library.

Nashen, a Cote Saint-Luc resident, has worked in oil paints, watercolour, stone sculpting, stained glass, ceramics, mosaics and various other art forms for more than 40 years. An active volunteer at the Golden Age Association, this is her first public exhibit. “Creativity has been a part of my life and a form of therapy that keeps the mind young”, Nashen said.

Jankielewitz discovered her interests late in life by the encouragement of a well known Montreal artist Sylvia Lefkowitz. Jankielewitz’s talents are strong in the expression of life as seen in her recent works. She too, like Nashen, volunteers her time in the craft department of the Golden Age Association.

The Fraser-Hickson Library is located at 4855 Kensington Avenue in N.D.G. The public is encouraged to come and see the show during library hours. For more information, call the library at 489-5301

I returned home to Vancouver on Friday to be with my BC family, Barbara, Johanna, Dave, Sasha, and my grandson, Jack, whom I haven't even seen, yet. Johanna's family lives in Nelson and Barbara and I will be going there in a few days.

Unfortunately, I may not be able to update this page when away from home. If anyone has any news, messages, or anything at all they wish to post here they should send it as soon as possible. Otherwise, posting may have to wait till my return to Vancouver in about 10 days.

I'll be adding Gary and Jennifer's eulogies for Polly soon, as well as some of my own thoughts and memories of her. If anyone would like to add anything to Polly's memorial page, it would be lovingly welcome. Also, of course, anyone who would like to say anything about any member of our family is encouraged to do so.

Surprise Quiz: how many Nachshen great uncles/great aunts did Stephen and Saul each have when they were born? first prize: a years supply of matzabrie or mushed matza.

And Frank...where are those digital photos of the seder? send them in and have Brian post them, you can always re-post them after editing again!

Next year, I will be going to Lakehead University to do my MA in clinical psychology. My area of research is children and families, with a special interest in prevention (I am not yet sure of my specific research topic yet). Although Thunder Bay probably sucks, the program at Lakehead is quite good. The most exciting thing is that I am going with an Ontario Graduate Scholarship worth about $12,000. As well, I am likely to get a paid position as a teaching assistant. Finally, I am going to get paid for going to school. HURRAY!

Well lets start with Saul, when he was born he had the great uncles/aunts (remember a great aunt or uncle is a brother or sister of your grandfather or grandmother) Helen and Jay (Issie's sister and brother in law) but that doesn't count Florence's siblings so I'm not exactly sure. As for myself, I'll wait until my birthday before sending that one.

BTW : I don't think any of us qualify for Peter's prize, aren't family members of the company offering the prize usually exempt?

Hi everyone,
Barbara and I returned yesterday from 10 glorious days with Johanna, Dave, Sasha, and Jack in Nelson, BC. While in Nelson, we also managed, with great effort, to take our eyes off Sasha and Jack long enough for a couple of driving tours of the area, which has some of the most spectacular mountain views imaginable. (I highly recommend this area for your next vacation. Not only is this region, in southeastern BC, one of the most beautiful on Earth, it's also the home of a rapidly expanding branch of the Nachshen Family Circle.)

The night before we left for Vancouver we had a wonderful Shabbas dinner with Peter, Bev, their children and grandchildren, as well as Johanna, Dave and the kids.

It'll take me a couple of days to get caught up with the web site. A few letters arrived while I was away. (I'm still waiting for the Seder photos, Frank.) But, please, everyone, start writing. Let's stay in touch.

Hello family and friends. I felt that it was time to write all the people on my " important" mailing list a letter. So here it goes. In 26 hours ( June 19th) I will finally be 16. It's been a realy great year in my life. Just last night at my school's award night I received five awards. 1) English award (top in grade 10) 2) Business Ed. award (top in grade ten) 3) Service award for my work in STARTING my local youth action team which is a group of students trying to solve problems in the community related to crime ad violence, representing my school in a provincial coonference in Chilliwack ( I was selected by the attorney General), I also was involved wit other clubs in the school: Yearbook,Interact, and Outdoor Ed. 4) My fourth award was for being on the honour role all three times in the school year. 5) the fifth award which is only given to one student in Each grade was the aggregate: Best all round student escelling in academics, sports, and makking the school a better place. It was really a big honour I didn't expect it at all. Some of the teachers even gave me a standing ovation.

On friday morning I will be travelling to Coquitlam to compete n the Provincial Long Course swimming competions. i am competing if four events: 100free 50free 100Breast 100Butterfly. I was also ranked to be in the top five in my zone ( lower mainland, including vancouver, richmond surrey, west and north van, and surrounding areas). So if I keep at this ranking I will be placed on my zone team for the BC winter games in February.

I also have a girlfriend named Alana. 6 feet tall, one inch shorter than me, brown hair, beautiful smile and personality. God I love her!!!

I also had a great year in school. The calss which was the most fun was Outdoor Ed. We did lots of outdoor training: First Aid, orienteering, skills, and survival. We also went on a five day canoe trip around the Powell Lake chains, in all we did 100km of canoeing, hiking, and portageing. It was a blast. Well bye for now, I'll write when I am sixteen, Mischa.

ok ok, I held on to his leg as he passed me and pulled him back and used the leverage to push myself ahead of him. (Hey I was sinking and could have almost drowned.)

ok ok, I was wearing flippers and he wasn't. Hey, he has bigger feet than me.

ok ok, I had a headstart. (he said I could)

ok ok I didn't really win , but for a second I was even with him.
