just eaten our first strawberry of the season from our own garden.
our salivary glands are in total bliss. we are drooling with olfactory
ecstasy. for a moment after swallowing my third of the berry (Gaelan
had the other third), my life was complete and perfect, I was healed
and my mind was at ease.. the sweetness combined with the tang and
tart, the soft textured shlurpy crunch, the aromatic juice of the
berry... oy heaven! since you asked, we're also eating greens, broccoli
and cauliflower already. in a few weeks, we'll have to stop everything
else we're doing and just eat from our garden.

Dear All
I have just returned from meeting with Larry, Margaret, Mark, and
Jennie in London. Although we only had a limited time it was really
a great meeting - to see some possibly long lost, indeed unknown,
family was a thrill for me.
Well, is there
a family resemblance? We would love to think so, but with the passing
of generations who knows. What I can tell you is there continues to
be a lot in common - Red/auburn hair; fair complexion, freckles etc.
This could be mere coincidence, but we did have a feeling of family
when we met.
Looking forward
to meeting more of you - possibly Rafi and Mintzy in California in
3 weeks time!!!!

Subject: Howdy from Montreal
Date: Tue Jul 22 23:08:36 1997
Just writing
to say hello to everyone in the Mishpacha
Currently, I'm
on leave and in Montreal and visiting my Saba, A.K.A Issie Nachshen.
It's been almost a year and a half since I last visited Montreal --
last time I was here, there was snow on the ground. In fact, there's
been snow on the ground almost every time I visit this city. It almost
feels sacrilegious to walk around here in shorts and a T-shirt. Prior
to coming to Montreal, I visited Saul at Mosh. Mosh hasn't changed
very much -- different faces, but still the same Ruach that I remember.
Saully is going to be one of two Madrichim taking a group of 16-year-old
kids to Israel, a task I certainly don't envy. Saba and I have been
spending some quality time together. He took me around old Montreal
Monday, and showed me his old stomping grounds -- the building where
he used to work, the restaurants at which he used to eat, and the
place where he met my grandmother more than 53 years ago...
Hope to have
an enjoyable rest of my vacation, and then it's back to sunny old
Texas. Looks like I'll be stationed in San Antonio for another year,
and then move on to another assignment -- maybe overseas, if I can
work it.
Take care everyone,
and see you at the Seder, if not sooner
Cheers

Like everything
in life, but especially computers, there are always bugs. This new
mail system has a few and I keep thinking about improvements. So far,
I think the worst bug is the 1,024 character limit. I didn't even
think about it till I saw Mike's letter which was obviously truncated.
All I can think of, for now, is if you run out of space, just post
another message as a response to the first part (leave the subject
blank so the same subject appears as a "re:") and write
"cont'd" or "part 2" or something at the beginning.
So, Mike, it's great to read your letter and I, for one, would like
to read the rest of it.

It takes oh
too long to load the archived mail. I might not have so much time
left already! Might I suggest that you load newest to oldest letters
instead of versa vica. Most of us Noshers will want to see the newest
one or two or several days worth of Bobe Mayses but probably not that
farshtunkina letter from Jan. 2 for the 120th time. Such trivialities
I shouldn't burden you with, but on 2nd thought...better you dan me!!

Subject: Re: Another suggestion already

I realized when
I put all the old mail on one page it would get to be a huge file.
And it'll get bigger! With a 28.8 modem it's no problem. But anyway,
my suggestion is: next time you load it, save it to disk. Then it's
right there and no need to even be connected to read any old letters.
This goes for any page, of course. When that page is changed or updated,
resave with the same name and your old copy will be overwritten. When
it's saved to disk, view it with your browser and bookmark it, then
it's easy to find again.
As for reversing
the order, it's too late. I'd have to cut and paste each letter manually.
I'm crazy, but not that crazy. Strange as it seems, I do have a life.
Sort of.

I liked the
way the previous setup worked, too. But the advantage here, as I've
said, is that posts are automatic. As for your second question, this
page uses frames which means when you go to News & Mail you're
actually seeing two pages. The top has the logo with links to old
mail, the Nachshen/Nachshen letters, and the Table of Contents. If
your screen doesn't show this it might be because your browser doesn't
handle frames. If that's the case you should download the current
Internet Explorer, or Netscape. Also, I agree that it's a pain going
back and forth but having messages "threaded" this way makes
discussions on a single topic easier to follow.
One more thing,
the part of the page with the messages on it, is on a different server
than the top part and the rest of the site. If I find a site that
handles all this in a better way, I'll switch to it.

She stayed an

back to her job in Toronto as a waitress as she can't move around

Anyhoo, we are

famous Nachshen recipe. We understand now why he said to use half
gallon jars as some of the cukes were so big, a single one just about
filled a 1 liter jar. We added dill from our garden as well. The Joy
of Cooking also recommended adding grape leaves and cherry leaves,
so we went out to our garden and picked those as well. If you come

As part of an organized tour, we could gather family (generally teenagers

50th birthday. We would enjoy a 10 day trip including flight from
Montreal (we'd figure out other departures as needed), deluxe motorcoach,
top notch guide, 5-star hotels, most meals and much more. Price would
be $2695 (which entitles you to a charitible receipt for $1800), plus
a required minimum donation of $500 (100% tax deductible) to a specified
organization ($250 for those under 40, $150 for students 25 and under).

Date: Mon, 15 Sep 1997
Hello Everyone!
It was a terrific,
laughter-filled trip. Jerry and I travelled from Edmonton to Jasper,
Banff, Lake Louise, Canmore, NELSON, Kelowna and VANCOUVER. (Unfortunately,
Bonnie could not take time from work, but we enjoyed the final leg
in their new and beautiful home.)
I'm pleased
to report on the joy we experienced visiting in Johanna and Dave's
new home -- big and lovely with lots of outside roaming space -- with
the "older folks" and SASHA and JACK. The photos and their
Zaide's kvelling do not lie. Sasha is bright, comical, sensitive and
beautiful to look at. Jack, at five months, radiates happiness and
contentment. (I'm sorry that it was only a short visit; I miss them
already!) Peter also came for dinner. It was great to visit together
in a more intimate setting. Dave cooked the best burritos and, after
dinner, discovered bears up in a tree. (I loved seeing all the wildlife
- elk, coyote and moose, in addition to the bears. )
Jerry and Bonnie
invited the mishpocha to dinner in Vancouver and I was glad to see
Brian and Barbara, Ronnie, Ian and Melanie. We all had a good time.
Vancouver is so beautiful and I am sorely tempted to follow in their
footsteps and be closer to my brother, but I don't know if I have
it in me to move yet again -- and my life in the Berkshires is also
quite beautiful. For now, I'll just have to travel out west more often.
Elizabeth and
Bob win the prize for the most travelled folks in my home territory.
We had a great weekend together before my trip. It's always a pleasure
to welcome them.
My warmest regards
to one and all.
And while I'm

I was baffled by this but it turned out he was asking if I was Jewish.

I had a great
time this afternoon hanging out with my nephew, the international
traveller, Mark Nachshen, who's visiting Vancouver. He forced me to
walk the entire Stanley Park seawall, thereby ruining my feet for
life. (Is it possible that he's in better shape than me?) However,
my groans of pain were not loud enough to drown out the tales of his
Australian adventure, which made me green with envy. Mark looks and
sounds just great, I'm happy to report.
I'm hoping he
sticks around long enough to see Johanna, Dave, and the kids who will
be coming here some time next week for about three weeks. Which reminds
me, we're having our West Coast Chanukah/Christmas shindig at Barbara's
probably on the 14th of December so, if you can't make it to Mintzi
and Rafi's, come by. Our party will probably be better. (Ha ha.)

I am a cousin
of Frank Fitleberg. My name is Gary Fitleberg. Our fathers are first
cousins. I was really surprised to find this magnificent website when
I just entered Fitleberg in YAHOO for fun. You have done an absolutely
outstanding job on this project and it definately gets my vote for
the best website I have seen to date. I am an avid genealogist and
can appreciate all the work put into this. Do you want to add the
entire FITLEBERG Family under "Related Families"???
One suggestion:
You should submit your website to Susan King of JEWISHGEN to have
a link put under Family Sites under links to other Jewish Genealogical
sources . Let me know what happens.....

he was related and kept saying "Is this MY cousin too?"
Isn't the internet amazing - we find more family - and family-of-family

stick. Welcome to the extended family.

Subject: Ads are coming
Date: Sat Dec 6 00:00:06 1997
The News &
Mail page has been provided by server.com at no charge, up till now.
As of Dec 15th they'll be placing ads on it. To get the service without
ads costs $95 (U.S.) a year.
I hate the idea
of ads here. (I hate the idea of ads anywhere.) Alternatives I've
considered are either running our own ads, asking family members to
sponsor this page, collecting a few bucks each from everyone, etc.
I'd like suggestions.
What would be the easiest way to come up with a couple of hundred
bucks a year to keep all this going? (Extra web space costs $60 U.S.
a year, which, by the way, is being wasted because no one sends pictures.)
Some of you
might not mind the ads but I've put a lot of work into this site and
I'd hate to see it polluted with advertising.
Please send
comments and suggestions.

I agree with
Brian - I don't like the thought of ads on "our" page. On
the other hand Ronnie has a good point - why shouldn't we be helping
each other out.
Here's another
suggestion: When we collect money each year at the Pesach seder -
we can collect extra and use that to pay for the Website. As a matter
of fact - we have enough left from last year to cover the first year.
I'd like to
see other comments too. Mintzy

Perhaps those
of us who have businesses would like to sponsor some ads. Then we'll
get the money we need and also provide a service for our family entrepeneurs.
I'd certainly be interested in paying a small fee for an ad on our
web site.
See you the

Mischa! As an Emergency Medical Technician for 17 years I can still
recall the first time I performed CPR and what it feels like to bring
someone back from the "other" side. I've since performed
CPR about 150 times.
It is a marvelous
feeling to be able to help someone who simply cannot help themselves.
You are to be commended and I am sure that all members of the Nachshen
Family are equally proud.

one life it is as though you have saved the entire world ("Pikuach

Anne reports
problems accessing and navigating the website. Is anyone else having
problems?
Problems may
be due to GeoCities having inserted these stupid "Word from our
sponsor" screens. I'm considering moving the entire site to the
same server that hosts my own website. This will cost a few bucks.
Also, I've asked
Mintzy to send a cheque to Server Corporation to get rid of the ads

This is for

We must have
met some time in the past. I do know Larry and Sam, both of whom are
prominent in my 3-D bar mitzvah slides (November, 1956). Of course,
everyone was thinner then.
Best wishes
to all the Nachshens and associates for 1998.
